FPS problems can occur for numerous reasons and it's very difficult to troubleshoot multiple users problems in the same thread. For this reason we would strongly recommend contacting us via our webform:

As stated, if you are experiencing a loss of FPS, this can be for different reasons - please try the steps below to try and troubleshoot your loss of FPS.

- 'Clean' install

Close the game down and remove the Interface, WDB and WTF folders found in your World of Warcraft folder - this will ensure a clean game client.

- Drivers

Ensure that all drivers are updated - this includes but is not limited to Motherboard, Graphics, Sound and Network Controllers. Links to common manufacturers can be found here:

Before updating any graphics card drivers, it's a good idea to fully remove any trace of old drivers that may be left behind. The following free program will do this:

- Background applications

Loss of FPS is not necessarily due to a graphics problem, if your computer is struggling to run World of Warcraft it's possible that other programs are taking up valuable resources. Try running the game with only essential system services running:

- Indexing Service

Windows XP uses an Indexing Service to speed up file searching on your drive, on lower specification computers this could hinder performance. You can turn off Indexing by navigating to My Computer, right-clicking your hard drive (normally C, left-clicking Properties and then un-ticking Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.

- Virtual Memory

When Windows has used all your physical memory (RAM) it will start to use your hard drive as Virtual Memory - this type of memory runs a lot slower than RAM. Generally speaking your Virtual memory should normally be set to System Managed - the following Microsoft document provides further information:

- Anti-virus programs

Some anti-virus programs are constantly accessing your hard drive and checking for viruses in real-time - this can hinder your games performance. It's normally possible to exclude folders from this automatic system - add the World of Warcraft folder as a safe folder if your anti-virus software has such a feature.

- Game Settings

Changing game settings can have a big effect on World of Warcraft's performance. Please try ensuring the following three options are set as described in your Video Options:

Disable Vertical Sync
Enable Hardware Cursor
Disable Smooth Mouse

You can also try disabling Shader effects by un-ticking Enable All Shader Effects.

- Mismatched RAM

If your memory is of different brands or speeds this too can affect your computers performance - particularly on motherboards that use dual-channel technology. Please check that your RAM is correctly installed and configured for your motherboard.

- Heat Issues

If your computer is over heating, performance can degrade - ensure that you have adequate cooling and that your computer is dust free.

- Power

Most of today’s graphics cards require a lot of power to run effectively. If you have upgraded your graphics card since you first purchased your computer, your new graphics card may need more power.
Check the amperage on the +12V rail and ensure that you have sufficient to run your card.
